A tutte le università si accede attraverso un esame di ammissione. La frequenza dei corsi è generalmente obbligatoria e la valutazione degli studenti si basa su elaborati scritti ( assignments) e su una serie di test ( almeno due per semestre). Le università britanniche, quasi tutte pubbliche, operano un sistema di numero chiuso per tutti i corsi di laurea. L'ammissione viene regolata in base alla votazione ottenuta agli esami finali della scuola secondaria (► A level; Higher). Un corso di laurea ha sempre una durata fissa, normalmente di tre o quattro anni, con lezioni obbligatorie ed esami scritti non ripetibili a fine anno, che decidono il voto finale. ► college, BA, MA, PhD). -
